Letter from Ilja Kesic to all bmx federation
Dear Friends
I’m usually not a men who tells people what to do, but sometimes it’s really
necessary to tell what should and what has to be done by the organizer, Commissars
and as well by the riders at the UEC BMX Championships. So through this letter I like
to give a small guide for Commissars and Organizers of UEC BMX Races. Nearly all of
these suggestions will become the rules for the next year and will come in the Cahier
des Charges.
The fact is we are having the best organized races in Europe, but it doesn’t mean we
have to stop and not do more for this sport and riders as well as teams and
organizers. Only together as one strong block, we can get more out of this and
develop. We need to follow our rules and experience. The best rule is not of any use,
if it’s not followed.
To our riders I would like to say, it is not enough to talk about be professional, you
need to show you are pros at work and it means you need to follow the rules and
agreements as well.
Rain is not a reason to stop or cancel the race. The block which is being run, must be
finished, and should only be interrupted in case of storm, heavy wind or lightning.
The track conditions are the same for all riders. It’s not fair to others to stop the race
once a block is begun.
Not in any other sport is this done. Motor GP riders do 200km/h in the rain. They just
pay more attention!
Riders know the gate can slip, even if it’s ‘weather proofed’. The start hill can be
slippery as can be the turns. They know this and should pay attention to it, and show
their skills.
The Track Manager should not stop the race in case of just rain. He should continue
the motos. Riders that do not get on the gate will get a DNS, no points for EC
Ranking or UCI ranking. The gate will be dropped (even if empty) and the moto
numbers will continue.
No racing, means no money. They want to be treated as pro’s, the should do their
job… even in the rain! Just like everybody else! All the helpers on the track and the
public is getting wet while they are waiting. It’s just disrespectful.
To the organizer: Why we have the truck rules, and Cahier des Charges, why we
have
the track inspectors? I want to see progress!
I wrote very clear to all organizers of 2006 what has to be done at gate to avoid
troubles in case of bad weather. They signed the contracts, but on the gate nothing
was done.
Now is the time to increase the pressure. All organizers of European Championship
rounds in the future have to pay the Deport sum of 3000 CHF (2000€). By good
Organization they get money back, if not they loose them.
This sum has to be paid to UEC till end of October this year for the 2007.
New Cahier des Charges will be ready till Finals at Cheddar and I will invite there all
organizers to sign up them together.
To Chief Commissaries; you are the highest authority on the track during the races,
follow the rules, make your orders and instructions clear. Treat all other officials,
riders and the organizer with respect, because only in this way, you and your orders
will be respected. Do you job also when you have to order sanctions against riders or
other officials? You have a very good education and experience other wise you were
not appointed for this job.
To Chef d`Equipe: You do your job very good and your relationship with UEC
Commission
and other officials are correct. You are the highest representative of your Federation,
not any team chef or any rider. In every circumstance, you are responsible for your
riders, also if they are part of a National or a Factory Sponsored team.
To the team Chefs and Trainer: You have nothing to do inside the track. You have for
you the assigned area, please stay there. If needed, the Chef Commissar will call
you.
Please don`t tell the Chief Commissar, me or any other officials what we have to do,
we know what we have to do. We don’t tell your rider how he should ride the track
or complain to you when your rider makes a mistake. That is your job, look and lead
your riders correct, don’t drink and smoke in front of them. Show what of sportsmen
you are. That is your job. Please do it.
Rules are there to be followed. The track manager needs to enforce his rules and
not let riders or other officials dictate them. He’s the boss. He runs the show
throughout the whole event.
A lot of riders, Chef d`equip and team Chef share my opinion.
With kind regards
Ilija Kesic
