More points, more prize money - Shepparton and Cairns kick up a gear!

The Chambikx/Probikx UCI Series has received a boost, with confirmation that round two of the series in Shepparton, Victoria and the final round in Cairns, Queensland will have more UCI points and more prize money on offer to competitors.

Just over a week after round one of the series at Nerang BMX Club, it has been determined that rounds two and four will be re-classed as ‘International Competition Hors Class’ (HC) rather than ‘International Competition Class 1’ (C1).

Due to this change there will now be up to 50 per cent more UCI points available for Junior Elite and Elite riders in both rounds. This means that riders placing 1-16 will all receive points, rather than just the top eight riders.

Prize money for both events has also increased accordingly with the Elite Men & Women now riding for a prize pool of €4,050 each, while Junior Elite Men and Women will ride for € 1,090 each in both Shepparton and Cairns.

BMX Australia Events Manager Joel Ulbricht said the re-classification of the two National Series events was a nod to the increasing popularity of the Australian series. He also added that it was a good opportunity for riders with international aspirations to earn much needed points.

“It’s incredibly pleasing that Shepparton and Cairns have been approved as HC events, and indicates that our series really is evolving as the premier competition in Oceania,” Ulbricht said.

“Obviously this year the number of events offering UCI points has decreased, so it is our hope that this re-classification can still assist our riders to earn a significant number of UCI points at key rounds.

“We see this as a really good opportunity for those elite riders eyeing off a start at a UCI BMX Supercross World Cup round, and encourage as many people to enter as possible.”

Late entries for the Shepparton round of the Chambikx/Probikx UCI Series close at 5pm AEDT Friday January 20.

The Shepparton round will be held on Saturday February 4, while Cairns will conclude the series on Saturday April 1.
