The archipelago of the Bermuda Islands, situated in the North Atlantic Ocean off the American coast, is famous for its fabulous beaches and its coral-decked sea beds. It is also a hotbed for cycling development.

Thanks to the support of the UCI, which is encouraging the grass-roots initiatives of the National Federations, the Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) has been able to launch its BMX development program via educational institutions, providing BMX bikes to youngsters of 12 to 14 years old. On January 13th, a ceremony was held at the Clearwater Middle School, on St. David’s Island, to celebrate the donation of this equipment.

“Through this particularly worthwhile initiative, the Bermuda Bicycle Association shows its commitment to young people and creates a sustainable boost for cycling”, said Pat McQuaid, UCI President. Affiliated to the UCI, the Bermuda Bicycle Association organises a variety of cycling events, both as a sport and as a means of transport.

Its President, Peter Dunne, explains: “Among other activities, we organise campaigns to initiate children in schools, starting in nursery school, as well as training camps designed for junior athletes and competitions in the various cycling disciplines
