With the Olympics just two short years away the interest in the world’s fastest growing action sport is rising. At the end of another successful season, the UCI BMX Supercross organisers take time to reflect and honour the special achievements within the BMX Supercross community. The awards were presented by Double A Pete during a lively and rather typical BMX party in Frejus.

There were several prizes awarded with the majority of the awards being decided by a jury vote. The result for the most popular rider of the year award however was judged by the public, who casted votes through an online voting pole.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Nominated;

1. German Medina, COL
2. Fabrice Vettoretti, FRA
3. Sean Dwight, USA
4. Wade Bootes, AUS

Winner is Fabrice Vettoretti coach of the French National Team.

Jury’s motivation; He demands the most of his riders, he get’s the results. Not for nothing everybody calls him ‘Fab’.

BEST PASS OF THE YEAR

Nominated;

1. Maris Strombergs LAT
2. Sylvain André, FRA
3. Sam Willoughby, AUS
4. Nic Long, USA

Winner; Nic Long (USA)

Jury’s motivation; In one of the most thrilling races in the history of BMX Supercross in Chula Vista 2010, Long passed the two fastest riders in the world, taking the Chula Vista title. This all happened in front of an ecstatic crowd.

RIDE STYLE AWARD OF THE YEAR

Nominated;

1. Joris Daudet, FRA
2. Corben Sharrah, USA
3. Sarah Walker, NZL
4. Ivo Van Der Putten, NED

Winner; Evil Ivo - Ivo Van Der Putten, with permanent bike number 666

Jury’s motivation; Ivo is always the first to hit the big jumps. He shows no hesitation and combines strength and power along with perfect style. Ivo was out for most of the season, but still the jury’s favorite.

BEST CRASH OF THE YEAR

Nominated;

1. Vincent Pelluard, FRA
2. Connor Fields, USA
3. Quentin Cayleron, FRA
4. Amanda Geving, USA

Winner; Connor Fields (USA)

Jury’s motivation; This award could also be called the bad luck award of the year. During the World Championships in South Africa, Fields was leading the finals in the biggest event of the year by three bike lengths, before loosing rhythm and falling hard on the second to last straight.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Nominated;

4. Tory Nyhaug, CAN

Winner; Sylvain André (FRA)

Jury’s motivation; Sylvan symbolizes ‘New School’ riding. He is skinny, extremely fast and has no fear – he was also the 2010 Junior World champion.

FEMALE RIDER OF THE YEAR

Nominated;

1. Shanaze Reade, (GBR)
2. Caroline Buchanan, (AUS)
3. Laetitia Le Corguille, (FRA)
4. Alise Post, (USA)

People’s vote ;
With the closest of margins and 30% of the votes, the people voted Caroline Buchanan from Australia as their rider of the year.

MALE RIDER OF THE YEAR

4. Marc Willers, NZL

People’s vote;
With a clear win, taking 45% of the people’s vote, the clear favorite amongst the BMX community – Sam I am. Sam Willoughby takes the title for male rider of the year.
