Auckland, New Zealand March 11th

Waitakere BMX Club was the host of round 5 of the UCI BMX World Ranking series this past weekend in Auckland, New Zealand. With a great track with a fast long first straight seen the Elite class hit over 50kph. The weather was perfect once again on race day and the race action was as best as you can get. Here is how round 5 of the UCI series unfolded.

Bootes looked to be back in charge after last weeks misfortunate crash with Kyle Bennett by qualifying out of the moto’s and into a stacked semi which seen some heavy hitters missing out on the final. In the main Bennett once again got the holeshot and had the lead going into the first corner. Kamakazi saw a gap and took over the lead down the second straight. Bootes and Willers were battling it out for 3rd and 4th. Bootes carried a lot of speed into the 2nd corner and passed 2 time World Champion Kyle Bennett into 2nd place. Bennett was then passed by Willers in the 3rd corner which saw the rest of the riders bunching up into the last corner. Bootes proved that there is still plenty of steam in his legs by passing kamakazi in the last straight to take his first win of the 2006 UCI BMX series.

The next UCI rounds will be back in New Zealand April 9th and 15th, but in the mean time Bootes will compete back in his home town of Toowoomba at their $5000 Open Day this coming weekend.
