2006 NBL NATIONAL SCHEDULE and UCI CONTINENTAL RACES

New NBL Schedule is out. RM59 Tropical National is on! The Elite World Ranking Series will be the most exciting new series for the 2006 NBL race program. Not only will these races be world qualifying races for the Olympic classes but also for all the Challenge age classes. The NBL will have 8 weekends with 16 races where the Experts, Cruisers and Girls can qualify for a spot on the 2007 Team USA for the 2007 UCI Worlds Championship in Victoria Island , British Columbia , Canada . The top 16 riders per each UCI Challenge class will qualify for a spot.

At each of these 8 locations in conjunction with the two NBL Elite Nationals there will be a UCI Continental Race for the Junior Men and Women and the Elite Men and Women. These riders will receive Individual UCI Olympic Ranking points plus the USA will receive Nations ranking points.

All the riders who participate in this World Ranking Series will be ranked according to their age as of December 31, 2007 in the official UCI Championship and Challenge classes. In order to determine the top 16 challenge riders (Cruiser, Expert, Girls) per the UCI class structure, the NBL will be using the rider’s best 6 Elite World Series Ranking points plus the Grand National. The riders will also receive 2006 NBL National points to qualify for the 2006 NBL Grand National. (2-4-1)

The NBL will be offering a 2-4-1 plan to all non NBL challenge age members (never had a NBL license). At the first 2006 Elite Series National which you attend the NBL will give you a free membership upon payment of your first National Class entry, 2-4-1.

There is more exciting news to come as the NBL will be announcing their new Team racing programs. The NBL will guarantee first and second place payouts for National Teams and Team NBL at all National events. The best 8 scores from all Nationals plus the 2006 Grand’s will determine the Team Title for National Teams. The best 8 scores from all Nationals, the best 2 scores from Regionals plus the 2006 Grands will determine the Team Title for Team NBL teams.

In addition to the new guaranteed payouts (increased purses for 1st and 2nd) the NBL is also introducing another part of the 2-4-1 program for the teams. This will be called the 2006 NBL World Series Team Ranking. This program will include National Team and Team NBL combined. The Team’s best six scores from the Elite National events plus the 2006 Grand National will be used. The winner of this series will receive the NBL World Series Cup, a free Trade team entry to the 2007 Worlds in British Columbia, Canada, a ‘BT’ full page cover shot of the Team and a black and white full page ad in ‘BT’ for 6 months of the 2007 racing season.

The NBL has always been on the cutting edge for BMX and with the 2008 Olympics the NBL riders will be ready.
